Experiment Study : Teaching Note in Tutorial Problem Based Learning
One of important aspects in tutorials step or group discussions is the establishment of learning issues or learning objectives that commonly referred as goal setting of student learning. As one of tools used by tutor / facilitator to direct the process of group discussions, is teaching note or tutor guide or tutor guidance so that learning issues minimally can be obtained. Independency in determining learning issues becomes frightening thing when student not be able to obtain minimal learning issues. This condition eventually necessitates the tutor given teaching note as tutor guide in directing the group to obtain minimal learning issues. However with the teaching notes is given make tutors often meddle students to follow the learning issues that exist in teaching notes. Though this will opposed the concept of PBL where independency of students to determine learning issues will be shackled when students relate their knowledge with problems/new cases that this could be different on each student or group associated with learning needs. This study-aims to determine whether there are differences in learning issues or learning objectives (LO) between group with tutors which given teaching notes and group that is not given teaching notes. Research methods used by this research is experimental studies with randomized groups post - test design. The variable is the attainment of learning issues in the process of learning tutorials. The sample is the tutorial on student of second semester. The sample were divided into 2 groups, that are treatment and control groups with each 15 samples in total. Research instrument used by this research is observation sheet of learning issues attainment. While analysis of the data by a t-test independent. The results showed both groups LO attainment is still in the low category. While the results of the analysis showed no statistically significant difference in the attainment of LO in tutor groups with teaching notes and groups without teaching notes (p : 0.682 , Cl : 95 percent). However, groups with tutors/facilitators use teaching notes got better LO attainment than groups without teaching notes. Although the study concluded there was no significant difference in learning issues attainment, but researchers still suggest the need of teaching note as supplement material for tutors / facilitators, because teaching notess significant role in PBL as well as its still new tutorial / discussion process in PBL groups as one of learning strategies in Indonesia and the need of periodic tutor ability evaluation and training in directing the process of group discussion.
