The Efectiveness of Psychoeducation to the Improvement of the Families Abilities in Taking Care the Elder with Depression in the Societies
Prevalence or incidence of depressive disorder ranged from 15-30 percent of the various data studies conducted in various countries. The number of events increased in some special populations such as the elderly and patients with general medical conditions. Family support is needed as the main source of support for the elderly in the community. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the effect of psychoeducation on families who have elderly with depression. The method used in this study is a quasi experiment design where as many as 28 respondents given family psychoeducation is a care giver who care for elderly depression at home. Results of statistical tests found a significant relationship after being given the ability of family psychoeducation in which the cognitive and psychomotor skills increased after given psychoeducation in the treatment of elderly with depression. The results of this research can be used as guidelines for nurses in community well as the policy foundation for service management in the development of programs to empower families and elderly people with depression or other mental disorders.
